Reflecting on 2021

Now I reflect on 2021. After a supportive visit by my Mom & 2 brothers just after Bill died, I found that I was coping pretty well with it all. I felt that I may have been grieving for Bill over the last couple of years, watching his deterioration. He never complained, however, & was always cheerful. If he came up against something he couldn’t do, worked until he had a solution. He was always like that actually & I’m so grateful he had such a beautiful spirit & positive attitude.

I still had Bill’s new little kitten, Becca, in the house. I gave her away later on because it was impossible for me to keep her along with my dear old Katrina. While Mom & Brian were here she took to Brian (who is not a cat person) – who knew?

Here’s the selfie I took w/ David, Mom & Brian.

Our good frends, Lorne & Joey both got Covid on their way home from Sri Lanka in early February of 2021. They suffered for nealry 2 months with difficult symptoms though they survived it in a very clever way – writing an update each day to all the friends who constantly asked about their health. A good way to keep everyone updated & hear news of everyone else.

In April my friend Don (the birder from Broadview) sent a photo of 2 Whooping Cranes flying over his home along with a few Sandhill Cranes! What a thrill! This is my favourite bird in the world & I wish I was there! So AWESOME!

Sadly, Don was not able to come out for a visit & some birding. His roommate got sick & this is not something you take a chance on these days. I hope he can come next year.

My beautiful cousin Karen moved into a new place – the same place her Dad lived in. Here she is at her doorway (#302). A very cute little place w/ a great restaurant (the chef used to run the diner in Hazlet where she once lived!)

Meantime, in Creston, Robyn & Arnie were getting settled in their new home. I got this hilarious photo of the new couch (bought by Arnie) with Joan, Robyn & Norm sitting on it. Notice that none of their legs reach the floor! haha

In keeping with the title of this Blog, my dear friend Don sent me a few bird photos which are beautiful & I want to include them here for your enjoyment.

White-winged Crossbill
Black-capped Chickadee

Aren’t they beautiful? Bill gave Don some of his camera equipment when it got too heavy for him to use any more. Obviously Don is making good use of it. I am so happy about this & hope he will keep sending me photos! Around Easter, I got a few more photos from Don. A beautiful little Northern Saw-whet Owl.

I don’t know where he saw this bison!

Even a lowly Starling looks great with a good camera & a good photographer!

Mom got a new cane & I asked for a photo of it, since I didn’t know when I’d see her. Pretty flashy!

Robyn sent me a photo of her beautiful European crocuses (croci?) blooming in her yard. How stunning!

Dear Blaine made us an amazing house for potential (?!) Purple Martins. It is the nicest one I’ve ever seen & he put it up for me (a sweetheart that Blaine!).

Blaine & Vonda are so sweet – they invited some of us over for the local fish fry used to raise money for the Elks. L-R Kevin Weiss, Blaine’s brother Larry, Blaine, Florence (Blaine’s Mom).

L-R: Rhonda Weiss, Vonda (Blaine’s wife), grandson Jason & Blaine’s brother’s wife Gail.

On June 20th Al Usher & Erin officially tied the knot (in Kingston) w/ a few family present. How cute are they down at Lake Ontario.

This is enough for now. I may not write any more blogs…??
